Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton
Thanks for joining me!
In the New Year, I will be embarking on a journey of self discovery… at least that is what I’m hoping for. I tell myself I love travelling, but really I don’t know that much about it. Yes, I have lived abroad which is no doubt a brave move in itself (even if it was just part of my degree), but I am beginning to think I underestimated what it means to go ‘travelling’.
I have always had a desire to go to South America, but only now do I have the time and money (after slogging away for months working at the pub) to actually do it. I always thought I would travel with friends, but with people going in all kinds of directions post-uni, I decided this would be something I would do (or at least attempt to do) on my own. The idea was (and still is) extremely daunting and I had absolutely no idea where to begin in terms of researching my voyage of self discovery. I just knew that I was at no point wanting to actually travel alone, especially not in a continent I had never been to which is extremely vast and known in parts for its political unrest and high crime rates.
I eventually decided it would be a good idea to ease myself in to my adventure…
I will be going to Florida in early January where I will visit my family and have some much-needed down time after a pretty manic few months. I’m hoping that a week in the north looking after my beautiful little cousins and then a chilled girly week on the beach in Miami may keep my nerves at bay. Then, I plan to fly down to Costa Rica to volunteer at a surf camp on the western coast. I’m hoping this will be the perfect way to meet like-minded people who also have the travel bug. Well, fingers crossed this is the case, otherwise I’m screwed and I’ll probably panic-book a return flight and cry the whole way home into my stodgy in-flight meal.
Stay tuned for what may be an incredible adventure where I slowly but surely work my way through my bucket list, or even for what may just be an alternative attempt at a travel blog.
