Hi. So I have officially been in Costa Rica for three weeks. Woweee. Has it gone quickly or slowly? I don’t even know. It has been such an amazing experience being in Tamarindo but I think my time has come to move on. In a way, it would be so easy to just stay in this place; the days just roll by, you begin to lose all concept of time and appreciate the smaller aspects of life. Yet, being in a camp environment can also be such an emotional rollercoaster, I’m not even sure why. You have the opportunity to meet so many inspiring people from all over the world, and to share incredible moments together, but you can also learn to resent people or take even the smallest of things for granted. I think maybe all the free time can get to you, you have so much opportunity to get lost in your thoughts and worry unneccessarily, sometimes failing to appreciate just how lucky you are. I am so unbelievably grateful for the past few weeks: the morning yoga sessions every day, the incredible array of food that is served to you for breakfast and dinner, the instant possibility of creating new friendships, the insights into others’ lives and the mountains of advice you can take from other people and apply to your own journey.
I have honestly never experienced anything quite like this. It could just be what it is like when people go travelling, but I am convinced it is more. It is the sense of community that you feel almost immediately, and continue to feel even when you see some of the people closest to you leave. But you definitely do know when it is your time to move on. I will struggle to leave this place, and maybe if I had more of a purpose here I would stay longer. The photographers, yoga and surf instructors etc. often stay for longer periods which makes sense as they can really get into their role and improve their skills, but I feel like I don’t get as much of a kick out of general camp maintenance LOL.
So what next? That’s a good question. I don’t have an exact plan for my next step, but I am planning on leaving camp this weekend with a good friend I made here (love you Eliza!). We are going to start by travelling down the Pacific coast of Costa Rica towards Santa Teresa and Montezuma which I hope provide a more authentic Costa Rican (or Tico as they say here) experience. We will meet up with people from camp when we get down there too which is exciting; I now feel like there will be people I know every step along my journey. We are then planning on travelling around Costa Rica for a week, meeting up with various people along the way, and then heading down to Bocas Del Toro in Panama. From there I am going to carry on down to Colombia I think but plans can always change so I’m not being too strict on any timings! It’s time to get out into the real traveller world, wish me luck!
